Our Bio
We are the people behind Pathr.ai (pronounced as path-er ey-ai). Founded in January 2019, Pathr.ai is a cutting-edge Spatial Intelligence startup that uses AI and Machine Learning to analyze human behavior in brick and mortar spaces like retail stores, office buildings, and shopping malls.
Think of us as web analytics for the physical world — that’s impressions, visits, journeys, referring domains, based on live interactions as they happen IRL (in real life) and based on human behavior.
We are primarily based in Silicon Valley, but are also a globally distributed team (trying to figure out this new WFH and hybrid location environment).
We’re getting there, one thing that’s helping us is new WFH traditions, like starting out our All Company meetings with a walk-up song and jamming to it together.
Our Background
Our story dates back to 2009, when our fearless leader and CEO, George Shaw, along with his colleagues at the MIT Media Lab created Spatial Intelligence as part of the Human Speechome Project (presented at TED Talk, “The Birth of a Word”).
Then, in 2010, George and our Advisor Ken Jackowitz first adapted Spatial Intelligence for industry to meet Bank of America’s business needs as part of MIT’s Center for Future Banking.
In 2011, George and his team brought Spatial lntelligence to retail while he was VP of R&D at analytics powerhouse RetailNext. In 2015, Silicon Valley startup AltSchool applied Spatial Intelligence to classroom education with George as their head of R&D. Later in 2017, with George as Head of Data Science, Second Spectrum used Spatial lntelligence to revolutionize the way NBA players and fans enjoy the game of basketball.
Now back to us, in 2019, founded by the inventor of Spatial Intelligence, Pathr.ai is the world’s first real-time Spatial Intelligence platform.
Let’s break that sentence that a bit:
- Real-time: We are able to provide business insights as the live interactions happen, in real-time.
- Spatial Intelligence: That’s our ability to understand behavior based on how people move and interact in physical spaces.
- Platform: Our solutions are developed as an end-to-end platform. We go from bits of information from existing infrastructure, like cameras, to business insights served up on a dashboard.
We are passionate about helping drive business outcomes using our technology. In fact, we’ve already been able to help our customers in Retail, Groceries, Commercial Real Estate and Malls understand:
- Is our store design effective? (High-end Luxury Brand)
- How do I best set my lease rates for these areas? (Mall Operator)
- What do customers do after they make a return? (Department Store)
- Are our checkouts operating efficiently? (Supermarket Group)
This is all the while preserving privacy and data anonymity in the analytics we provide, which means we’re able to provide unbiased insights to our customers and protect people’s privacy.
